Funeral services for Loren H. Nice of McMinnville will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, April 10, in the chapel at Macy & Son Funeral Directors. The Revs. Gary and Dennis Nice will officiate. Visitation will be held from noon to 7 p.m. Wednesday, April 9, in the chapel. Interment will be conducted at the Sheridan Mennonite Cemetery.
Mr. Nice died at home of natural causes on Sunday, April 6, 2008. He was 60.
Born in Newberg on Jan. 8, 1948, he was the son of Howard Fred and Luella Mae (Wolfer) Nice. He grew up mostly in Willamina, but finished high school in neighboring Sheridan, where he graduated with honors.
He excelled at sports, twice qualifying for state in wrestling. A conscientious objector, he spent two years volunteering at Good Samaritan Hospital in Portland in lieu of military service.
He operated service stations in Portland until the mid-1970s, when he returned to Sheridan. He worked three years with Nice Electric and then went to work at a trailer factory in McMinnville.
He enjoyed hunting and fishing. "He had a great sense of humor," the family said.
Mr. Nice is survived by a son, Matt of Portland; three daughters, Becky and Alisa Nice of McMinnville and Teresa Hooper of Wilsonville; father and stepmother, Howard and Irene Nice of McMinnville; three brothers, Dennis of McMinnville, Gary of Sheridan and Doug of Salem; two sisters, Judi Jones of McMinnville and Marlene Kropf of Elkhart, Ind.; and eight grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his mother.
