Joe Thomas Calhoun, 60, of Jacksonville NC, died Feb. 16, 2009, at Onslow Memorial Hospital. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 21 at Jones Funeral Home, Jacksonville with the Rev. Thomas Block officiating. Burial, with military honors, will follow at Coastal Carolina State Veterans Cemetery. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War having retired from the U.S. Marine Corps. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Kreel Calhoun. Survivors include two sons, Thomas Joseph Calhoun of New Port Richey, Fla., and Matthew Allen Calhoun of Jacksonville; one daughter, Deirdre Hoffman of Virginia Beach, Va.; seven grandchildren and one great-granddaughter. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 20 at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the DAV, 300 Sherwood Drive, Jacksonville, NC 28540.
