Excerpt from the 1790 Journal of Dr. Thomas T. Wickham - written at his father's home in East Hampton:

"Friday August 13th

Spent all day with my Father, and assisted Col. Huntting and Esqr Miller to settle his affairs. We dispair'd of his life this afternoon. He seem'd perfectly resigned. — In the Evening my Father call'd all his Children by his bedside, and told them he was not long for this World and gave each of us a Dying charge.

Easthampton Saturday . . .
August 14th 1790

My Father talked a good deal to his Children, and told us he committed us into the hands of God, and hoped we would serve him in truth.

He expressed a great deal of concern for Brother Jeremiah, and said he gave him more trouble on his Death Bed, than all the rest. Rev. Mr. Buel joined with my Father in Prayer about 2 O'Clock and about six O'Clock in the afternoon he expired being in the 61st year of his age."

I have Transcribed this Journal as written. Thomas names all of the family members who are living and are in the area at that time. The original Journal is archived at The New-York Historical Society, 170 Central Park West at Richard Gilder Way, New York, NY 10024-5194
