SARATOGA SPRINGS, NY - Leo P. Kuziora, 87, a resident of the Wesley Health Care Center, Lawrence St., Saratoga Springs, N.Y., formerly of Dunkirk, died Thursday, January 22, 2009 at Saratoga Springs Hospital.
He was born in the Town of Villenova on July 1, 1921, the son of the late Lucas and Frances (Maziarz) Kuziora.
Mr. Kuziora was a graduate of Forestville Central School class of 1940 and a graduate of Bryant & Stratton of Buffalo. He was a World War II U.S. Navy veteran, where he served aboard the USS Philadelphia as a shipfitter 1st class and earned the American Defense Ribbon, American Theatre Ribbon, European, African, Middle Eastern Theatre Ribbon and World War II Victory Medal. On August 14, 1946, he was awarded the Navy Unit Commendation from the Secretary of the Navy for out standing heroism displayed in the Mediterranean Theater in 1943. Mr. Kuziora owned and operated the former Leo P. Kuziora Public Accountant Firm, Dunkirk, for 35 years and in the 1950's he owned the former Flahaven Restaurant in Dunkirk. He was a former member of the Church of St. Hedwig, Dunkirk, was part of the ''Kuziora Trio'' Orchestra, was a member of Sheridan Veterans of Foreign War Memorial Post 6390, the American Legion Post 59, Fredonia, the Kosciuszko Club of Dunkirk, the Falcon Club of Dunkirk and the Lions Club of Fredonia.
Survivors include a daughter, Judith (Joseph) Dorflinger of Saratoga Springs, N.Y.; two brothers: Leonard (Betty) Kuzora of Forestville and Joseph Kuziora of Folson, Calif.; and a sister, Gladys Halicki of Forestville. Also surviv-ing are five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Frances (Wolanin) Kuziora, whom he married June 3, 1950 in the Church of St. Hedwig, Dunkirk and who died July 19, 1997; by a brother, Sebastian Kuziora; and by a sister, Mary Skop.
