Ex-Treasurer, Dies
A former Gibson County treasurer, John C. Bingham, 85, died at 7 a.m. Thursday in his home, 331 W. Walnut St., Princeton. He had been ill for the past 11 years.
Born Nov. 22, 1874, he had lived all his life in Gibson County.
He was the youngest child of the late William Garner and Jane Roberts Bingham, who farmed about four miles northeast of Owensville. Four sisters preceded him in death.
For a number of years Mr. Bingham was a salesman for General Motors Corp. products and introduced the Frigidaire appliance line in Gibson County.
A Republican, Mr. Bingham was elected Gibson County treasurer for four terms of office. In 1934 he was elected to a two-year term and re-elected again in 1936. He was elected again in 1942 and re-elected in 1944.
Mr. Bingham was an active member of the First Methodist Church for many years where he was a trustee, board member and an active member of the Men's Bible Class.
Surviving is his widow, Ada Spore Bingham.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in Wright and Kendall Funeral Home. The Rev. John Paul Jones and Dr. L. C. Jeffrey will officiate. Interment follows in White Church Cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home after 2 p.m. Friday.
