Robert Clay Cummins was born January 26, 1902 in Bristow, Oklahoma. His father was James Madison Cummins (1860-1937). His mother was Catherine "Katie" Hill (1871-1942). His siblings were (half) Luzetta Cummins (1886-1919), full James Samuel Cummins (1893-1918), Jesse Bryant Cummins (1896-1976), Lena Cummins, Rose Marie "Rosetta" Cummins (1891-1976) and Clara June Cummins (1904-1990). Robert and his family moved to Ochiltree, Texas in 1920.
Robert married Maria Luisa Trinidad Rivera Baz (1899-1990) August 1928 at the home of Father Fernand Louis Rousselle in Conchise, Arizona. They honeymooned in Hot Springs, New Mexico and Iowa then returned to live in Amarillo, Texas. Robert had a cattle farm with his family. Together they had a daughter Marie Juliette Cummins (1937).
Robert enlisted in the military September 1, 1939. He was a Private First Class in the U.S. Army stationed in Honolulu, Hawaii. He died in WWII on September 9, 1943 overseas. He is listed in US Rosters of World War II Dead, 1939-1945. His body was finally interred March 26, 1948 at Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery in Pt Loma, San Diego, California. His wife is buried there with him.
Robert was survived by his wife Mary Cummins, daughter Marie Juliette Cummins and granddaughters Mary Julie Ruch, Juliette Cummins and Mary Cummins.
