Born at Flint Creek, Cherokee Nation, IT, to George Washington Eaton and Nannie Williams, Rachel Caroline "Callie" was believed to be the first Oklahoma Indian woman to receive a PH.D., and the first woman county superintendent of schools in Rogers County, Oklahoma.

She was enrolled on the Cherokee Dawes Roll: card #4677, roll #11376 as Rachel C. Eaton, 1/32 Cherokee, the daughter of George Washington Eaton and Nannie Elizabeth Williams.

She wrote extensively on western history, including "Domestic Science Among The Primitive Cherokees;" "Historic Fort Gibson;" "John Ross and the Cherokee Indians;" "Oklahoma Pioneer Life;" "The Battle of Claremore Mound;" and "History of Pioneer Churches in Oklahoma." In 1932 the Tulsa Historical Society founded the Rachel Caroline Eaton Chapter, and in 1936 she was inducted into the Oklahoma Hall of Fame.
