Leona M. Bennett, 89, of Shelbyville, died Thursday, June 17, 2010, at Ashford Place Health Campus.

Born May 8, 1921, at New Marion, she was the daughter of Joseph Casper Kramer and Celeste Pearl (Shadday) Kramer McDonald. She married Charles M. Bennett, and he preceded her in death in 1978. She also married William S. Miller, and he preceded her in death.

Survivors include sons, Jerry E. (wife, Mary) Bennett of Shelbyville and Danny W. (wife, Cindy) Bennett of Rushville; daughters, Shirley Higginborham and Ruth Ann (husband, Jim) Landwerlen, both of Shelbyville; daughter-in-law Patricia Bennett of Shelbyville; brothers, Harvey McDonald of Fishers and Robert McDonald of Bartholomew County; sisters, Janet Coffey of Shelbyville and Carolyn Sue (husband, Richard) Berkemeier of Decatur County; grandchildren, Bret (wife, Shawn) Bennett, Mike (wife, Tina) Bennett, Keith Bennett, Todd Bennett, Elaine (husband, Kevin) Schramm, Kathy Schlimgen, Steve (wife, Vicky) Higginbotham, April (husband, Jeff) McCurry, Brad Landwerlen, Chrissy (husband, Jeff) Craig, Cheri (husband, Mark) Ramey and Claire Neal; one granddaughter-in-law, Angela (Bennett) Murray and spouse, Terry; 13 great-grandchildren; and 11 great-great-grandchildren.

She also was preceded in death by her parents; son, Melvin Bennett, grandsons, Duane Bennett and Scott David Bennett; an infant great-great-grandson; and brothers, Richard Kramer and Jim McDonald.

Mrs. Bennett spent her lifetime in Shelbyville and Rushville.

She attended St. Joseph Catholic School and graduated from the Indiana School of Cosmetology in Indianapolis.

Mrs. Bennett had been employed as a secretary for several area businesses throughout the years and for Rush County Senior Citizens for 19 years, retiring in 2000. She also had been a beautician for Helen Clark Beauty Shop for three years.

She was a former member of Rush County Moose and Eagles lodges and Rush County Senior Citizens.

Mrs. Bennett loved music, dancing, gardening and traveling, and she enjoyed being around people. She played guitar and sang in the Rush County Senior Center Band. She also loved spending time with her family and friends.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Glenn E. George & Son Funeral Home, 437 Amos Road.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Clyde McCammack officiating.

Burial will be in Miller Cemetery in Shelby County.

Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of South Central Indiana or Rush County Senior Citizens in care of the funeral home.
