He was born in Person County, son of the late Johnny and Lillie Aiken Allen. He was a construction supervisor and a veteran of the Korean conflict, where he served for three years in the paratroopers.
He is survived by his wife, Edna Vaughn Powell Allen; a daughter, Rita Lynn Griffin, a stepdaughter, Wanda P. Sneed, and two stepsons, Roger Powell and Curtis Powell, all of Roxboro; a half-brother, Herbert Allen of Goldsboro; two sisters, Irene Holms of Sumter, SC, and Alice Melton of Roxboro; a half-sister, Elva Green of Raleigh; and two grandchildren, Victor Ray Griffin and Wesley Lee Blalock.
