Evelyn Hodges Hester, 89, formerly of Winona, died on Monday, February 16, 2009, at the Bolivar Medical Center in Cleveland. Visitation will be held on Thursday, February 19, 2009 from 5 until 8 pm at Lee Funeral Home in Winona. Funeral services will be held on Friday, February 20, 2009, at 2 pm from the First Baptist Church in Winona with burial to follow in the Oakwood Cemetery in Winona. Revs. Glenn Seefeld and Johnny Walker will officiate the services.

Mrs. Hodges was a faithful member of First Baptist Church in Winona for over 70 years, being an active member of the Triple L Club and one who helped start the Rook club. She was also a Sunday School teacher for many years. Shortly before her illness, she placed membership with the First United Methodist Church in Greenwood.

Mrs. Hodges is survived by three sons, Thomas Hodges of Merigold; Jack Hodges (Carol) of Greenwood; and Kenny Hodges (Kaye) of Starkville; two sisters, Jewel Burgin of Holly Springs and Judy Farrell of Clinton; sister-in-law, Mavis Pounds of Atlanta; former son-in-law, Billy Costilow of Winona; former daughter-in-law, Terraseta Hodges of Greenwood; nine grandchildren; thirteen great- grandchildren; along with a host of nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Hodges was preceded in death by parents, Jack and Madie West Raper; first husband, Thomas Hodges; second husband, Col. Guy "Slick" Hester; and daughter, Carolyn Hodges Costilow.
