This William Schoppenhorst immigrated with his parents, probably his step-mother, a sister, a half sister, and half brother in 1844. Aboard the ship "Ellen Brooks," the family arrived in New Orleans 9 Oct 1844. From there they traveled to St. Louis and on to Warren County, MO, where William's two older brothers had settled. William headed on to Cincinnati and later to Indianapolis, where he established a business and raised a family.
Mr. Schoppenhorst married Kath Sophia Elizabeth Lisette Lindemann 12 Sep 1850. After her death, he married Wilhelmina Clara Wilker 05 Jun 1862. By 1858, the family was in Indianapolis. The "Indianapolis, Indiana" city directory, 1858-1859 lists business and residence of William Schoppenhorst: "Schoppenhorst William, groceries and provisions, 101 E. Washington, res same; link:

Records of Crown Hill Cemetery indicate that he died of "consumption." Will and Crown Hill Cemetery record are in possession of Jane Denny.
Mr. and Mrs. William Schoppenhorsts' remains were respectfully reinterred in Crown Hill Cemetery 10 August 1881. Their daughter, Amelia C. (Schoppenhorst) Bals, died in Mar 1881 and was buried in Crown Hill Cemetery 07 Mar 1881. Many thanks are extended to Sharon Butsch Freeland for the information that remains of Wm Schoppenhorst were "moved to" Crown Hill Cemetery, Indianapolis.
