Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Pratt, pioneer mother of the Lindsay community passed to a well earned reward, Friday, Oct. 6, 1939, at the age of 81 years, 8 months and 26 days.

Mrs. Pratt came to what is now Garvin County from Kaufman County, Texas in 1889, and has made this section her home since that time.

She became ill a little more than four months ago, and had been bedfast since that time. At the time of her passing she was at the home of her son Tom Pratt, and had previously been a patient in the Pauls Valley hospital.

Funeral services were conducted from the Lindsay Baptist church, with Rev. Black delivering the funeral discourse. He was assisted by Rev. Lee L. Reeves and Rev. Walter Douglass. A choir of voices from the various Lindsay churches sang hymns and the girls quartet, Misses Mary Beth Abbott, Elizabeth Ann Reeves, Betty Louise Boone and Florence Irene Parker, sang a special number. The pall bearers were Messrs. Chas. Nelson, Chas. Callahan, Virgil Howard, Walter Price, John McCaughey, and Alvin Cudd.

Mrs. Pratt was born in Warren County, Missouri, January 10, 1858.

She was united in marriage to A. B. Pratt in Missouri in 1879, with whom she moved to Texas in the early days, moving to this section of county in 1889. Mr. Pratt passed on August 16, 1932.

There were nine children born of this union, one of whom passed away in infancy. Surviving are T. B. Pratt, Pauls Valley; Mrs. Jennie Godwin, C. S. Pratt and R. D. Pratt of Lindsay; W. H. Pratt, Portland, Ore.; F. D. Pratt, Denver Colo.; and Jack Pratt of Arizona. Other survivors include a number of grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Mrs. Pratt was a member of the Baptist church, with which organization she had been identified for many years, and was an active worker as long as her health permitted. She was possessed of many fine friendships and her passing is mourned by all with whom she had association.

Interment was in Green Hill cemetery, the Brown Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
