John May, one of the well-known citizens of this part of the county, died at his home in Venice on Sabbath, December 25, aged about 71 years. Mr. May had been in failing health for several years, but was as well as usual on Tuesday when in the presence of some of their relatives and friends he and his wife celebrated their golden wedding. On the following evening Mr. May suffered from a stroke of something like paralysis, and died on Sabbath. Mr. May is survived by his wife, who was Miss Reed, sister of Mrs. David White of this place Mr. and Mrs. May had one or two children, but they have been dead many years. All Mr. May's brothers and sisters are dead also. Mr. May was a member and ruling elder in the Venice United Presbyterian church. He was a good man and of a quiet, retiring disposition. He was born on Millers Run and lived there the greater part of his life.
Some 25 years ago Mr. May lived in Canonsburg, where he had an interest in the Canonsburg Planing mill, now owned by McDowell Dickson. Later he removed to Burgettstown and engaged in business.
The funeral services were held on Tuesday afternoon. The interment was in the cemetery near the Venice United Presbyterian church.
