In civilian life he was a teacher and basketball coach
Military re-interment services for First Lt. Henry L. Chovanec, 28, will be held at the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Peter Chovanec Sr. of Fayetteville, R1, Sunday, at 9 a.m.

Services will be continued at St. John Catholic church at Fayetteville, Rev. Frank L. Matustik officiating and Koenig Funeral Home directing. Burial will be in St. John's Catholic Cemetery.

All local Legionnaires and VFW members are requested to attend the services, and should be at the church in Fayetteville by 9:15 a.m. Everyone is asked to wear their cap; but it you don't have a cap, get your poppies at the church. Firing squads of both organizations will participate.

Lt. Chovanec was born near Fayetteville on July 8, 1914. After graduating from Fayetteville High School, he attended and graduated from Texas University, where he was a basketball star. He taught school and coached basketball for several years, the last few at Moulton. He received his flight training at Hicks Field. He married Miss Betty Pasley in California on Aug. 21, 1942.

Lt. Chovanec lost his life in New Guinea on April 30, 1943.

Besides his parents and widow, he leaves five sisters, Mrs. Mary Zapalac and Mrs. Sophie Slansky of Sealy, Mrs. Anna Novak and Miss Albina Chovanec of Fayetteville, and Mrs. Julia Novak of Beasley; and two brothers, Ludvik of Crosby and Peter Chovanec Jr. of Fayetteville.
