Mary was the daughter of Frank Hopkins and Sarah Libbie Jewell. She married King David Cobbs in about 1886. In 1900 King, Mary and their children were living in Pigeon, Indiana. King was the Chief of Police.

In 1910 King, Mary and the three girls were living in Salt Lake City. King was the manager of a telephone company.

In 1920 King and Mary were living in Salt Lake City with their daughter Mary and her husband Arthur H. Ball. King was a traveling salesman for a paint company. In 1930 Mary was living with Mary and Arthur Ball in Salt Lake City. The federal census record indicates that she was widowed.

In 1940 King was living in Atlanta, Georgia and married to Ruby.

The children of King Cobbs and Mary Hopkins were:
1. Margherite Eleanor Cobbs (1888-1952) (Bernard Roser Strouse)
2. Mary Elizabeth Cobbs (1890-1950) (Arthur Henry Ball)
3. Katherine Jewell Cobbs (1892-1972) (Albert William Crabbe)
