Richard and Jane Donaldson Jackson were the parents of Capt James William Jackson - first casualty of war.

Notes collected by poster:
Richard Jackson's property was located on present-day Swinks Mill Rd. He was the father of the notorious James W. Jackson who was killed by Col. Ellsworth at the Marshall House Hotel in Alexandria early in the Civil War.

Richard's children by Jane Donaldson were Ann Marie Jackson b. 12 Feb 1813 (m. Barnett Stewart), Elizabeth b. 3 March 1817 d. 17 Aug 1821, Andrew b. 25 August 1818 d. 17 Aug 1819, Sarah A. "Sally" Jackson (m. Dr. Samuel A. J. Evans), Julia M. Jackson b. 1822 (m. Maj. Henry Thomas), John Jackson Charles Jackson, Richard F. Jackson, and James W. Jackson b. 1823 d. 24 May 1861. He may have fathered other children as well.

Richard's father was John Jackson, c1737-1819, who married Ann Wigginton. A John Jackson is listed in 1760 as a leaseholder on "land belonging to CARTER, on Scott's Run, just north of the road to Fall's Warehouse" (An Interpretive Historical Map of Fairfax County, Virginia in 1760 by Beth Mitchell). (notes from "Dad Wig" with common interest in name Wigginton)

In the settlement of the estate of Richard Jackson by his executrix, Jane Jackson, the following names are mentioned:

Lousia Taylor (her legacy $100, 1827)

Ann Maria Jackson (cash paid for expenses while at school in Baltimore, cash to A. McCairne, Harrison M. Thomas, Joshua Comstock, Ann G. Wright for tuition and books, etc., 1824-1827)

Sally (Sarah) Jackson (cash paid for H. M. Thomas for tuition and books, etc., 1824-1827)

John J. Jackson (cash paid John Gantt, E. L. Blackburn, T. R. Love for tuition, books, etc., 1824-1827 )

Richard Jackson (cash paid J. Gantt, H. M. Thomas, T. R. Love for tuition, books, etc., 1824-1827)
