John was a Kentucky native and a coal miner in West Terre Haute, IN. His wife, Clara died in 1934, then he married widow Mattie (Black) Hauser about 1935 and they lived at 2201 N. 15th St, per the 1940 U.S. Census. John was retired by that time. JOHN W. BALLINGER Funeral services for John W. Ballinger, 98, of 2201 N. 15th St., who died 10:10 a.m. Saturday at the Wallace Sanitarium, are scheduled for 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Bedino Peace Chapel. They will be conducted by the Rev. Robert Smelzer with burial to follow in Woodlawn Cemetery. Friends may call after noon Monday. Survivors include the widow, Mattie; three daughters, Mrs. Olive Russell of Cleveland, Ohio; Mrs. Opal Downey of Martinsville and Mrs. Chloe Barnett of Clinton; two stepdaughters, Mrs. Edna Shadow of RR 3, West Terre Haute, and Mrs. Ruth Hayden of. Terre Haute; a step - son, Herman Hauser of Wauregan, Conn., and several grandchildren.
