John Sundy CSA was the son of Catharine Cade and James Sundy of Fayetteville, Cumberland County, North Carolina. He was a Confederate soldier, with a six month enlistment, in the Bloody Bethel Regiment of North Carolina. After serving in the Confederate Army, John made rifles at the North Carolina Artillery, in Fayetteville. He married Sarah Margaret Shaw in North Carolina and they moved to Steer Pen (Cheraw), South Carolina, where they raised their children.
