Rachel Paulina Dowdle, born in South Carolina to Captain Robert and Rachel Gallagher Dowdle. Her mother was sister to William Gallagher, buried in Unity. Her father was a brother to John Dowdle, buried at Unity, and was buried in OddFellows Cemetery in Aberdeen. Rachel married John Jackson Mayfield, son of Jesse and Martha Key Mayfield, May 1, 1838. He was a trustee of Unity Church in the 1850’s. Their children were:

Francis Amanda Mayfield (L. D. Booth)

Daniel Marion Mayfield (Annie E. Ussery)

Emma Jackson Mayfield (Adonirum Judson Fuqua).

The 1850 census shows John J. Mayfield (34), Rachel P. (38), Eliza A. (9), Francis A. (5), Daniel M. (3), and Mary E. Shirley (10). John J. Mayfield is listed as a farmer. According to the Egger Death Book, John died August 15, 1855 and is likely buried at Unity beside his wife. The 1860 census shows Rachel Mayfield (47 SC), Fanney (14 MS), Daniel (12 MS) and Emma (7 MS). The 1870 census shows Pauline Mayfield (56 MS), David (22 MS), and Euwina (17 MS). The 1880 census shows D. M. Mayfield (32 MS), Anna E. (22MS), Lenard Estel (3 MS), Rachel P. (68). Rachel died about three years later.
