The 1840 US Census of Cherokee Co., AL enumerated the household of 43 Y/O Phillip Matthew Turner in the proper age range of 40-49. His 38 Y/O wife's, Pricilla (Bradley) Turner, age was recorded in the proper age range of 30-40. Enumerated in his large 1840 family were 2 females in the age range of 5-10 Y/O, one of which was 8 Y/O Lourinda Turner.

Lourinda Turner married Marshall Ayers Bradley on 12 Feb 1850 in Alabama. Marshall was born about 1830 in Greenville Co., South Carolina and died on 02 Feb 1862. Marshall's father was Isaac Bradley (b. 1785 Orange Co., N.C., d. 1848 Greenville Co., S.C.). His mother was Sarah Armstrong (b. 1792 Greenville Co., S.C., d. Aft. 1850 Greenville Co., S.C.). Marshall's grandparents were: Abraham Bradley, Sr. and his wife, Sarah Elizabeth Lane of Greenville, S, C. (See the 11 Oct 1823 will of Abraham Bradley, Sr., Probated 17 Nov 1823, Greenville, S.C. Vol. 1-2, Will Book "B", Page 49, Apartment "1", File "39"). Thus, Pricilla (Bradley) Turner's father, Abraham Bradley, Jr., and Marshall A. Bradley's father, Isaac Bradley, were both sons of Abraham Bradley, Sr. of Greenville Co., S.C.
Note: Isaac Bradley, the father of Marshall A. Bradley, was the brother of Abraham Bradley, Jr. who was the father of Lourinda (Turner) Bradley's mother, Pricilla (Bradley) Turner.

The 25 May 1850 US Census of Cherokee Co., AL enumerated the household of 21 Y/O Marshall Ayers Bradley, a farmer born in South Carolina, and his 18 Y/O wife, Lourinda (Turner) Bradley.

The 1850 US Agricultural Census of District 27 of Cherokee Co., AL enumerated Marshall Ayes Bradley as owning 110 acres of land worth $300.00. Living very closely to him was William Hughes Bradley, his brother, who owned 70 acres of land worth $800.00. This William Hughes Bradley was born in 1818 in South Carolina and died on 27 Feb 1891 in Jackson Co., Alabama. William married his wife, Elizabeth Emilie Benson, in S.C. She was born in Dec 1821 in S.C.

The 1860 US Census of St. Clair Co., AL enumerated the household of 30 Y/O Marshall Ayers Bradley, born in S.C., and his 29 Y/O wife, Lourinda (Turner) Bradley, born in AL. Also living in the household were their children: 1) J. Marion Bradley, b. 1850 St. Clair Co., AL, d. 1887 Etowah Co., AL, m. Martha M. McKinnon (1850-1915) on 25 Dec 1873 at Etowah Co., AL; 2) Eliza Adelaid Bradley, b. 22 Nov 1854 St. Clair Co., AL, d. 16 Oct 1929 Etowah Co., AL, m. 09 Nov 1871 Etowah Co., AL to John Hodge Hicks, b. 18 Feb 1851 AL, d. 31 Dec 1930 AL (Marriage performed by Elder Stephen Reed Hood) NOTE: The daughter of Elder Stephen Reed Hood, Angeline Hood, married Phillip Matthew Turner, Jr., the brother of Lourinda (Turner) Bradley; 3) Sarah Elizabeth Bradley, b. Jan. 1860 St. Clair Co., AL.

Marshall Ayers Bradley died on 02 Dec 1862 at Halls Mill, Mobile Co., AL in the service of the Confederate States of America (CSA). He was listed on the roster of the 25th Alabama Infantry Regiment, Company "H" and reportedly died from "rheumatism" while in the Confederate Hospital at Halls Mill. I suspect he most probably died of "measles" as there were epidemics there in 1862 that killed many soldiers. Confusingly, he was listed as a private in the 19th Alabama Volunteer Infantry Regiment, Company "D" on the 05 Apr 1887 Civil War Pension application submitted by his widow, Lourinda R. Bradley. The pension was granted (see attached document).

The 1870 US Census of Attalla, Etowah Co., AL enumerated the household of the 38 Y/O widowed Lourinda (Turner) Bradley. Also living in the household were her children: 19 Y/O J. Marion Bradley, a farm laborer born in AL; 15 Y/O Eliza Adelaid Bradley; 10 Y/O Elizabeth Bradley, a student, and 7 Y/O Ayers Bradley, a student (It appears he was born after his father's death).
NOTE: Living next door was the household of 40 Y/O Joseph Berry "JoBerry" Turner, a farmer born in AL, and his 28 Y/O South Carolina born wife, Lucy (Clanton) Turner, and their children. Joseph Berry Turner was the son of Phillip Matthew and Pricilla (Bradley) Turner, Sr., thus the brother of Lourinda (Turner) Bradley.
NOTE: Living three households away from Joseph Berry Turner's residence was the family of 32 Y/O Abraham "Abe" Micajah Thornton, a farmer born in GA, and his 23 Y/O wife, Mary D. (Turner) Thornton and their children. Mary D. (Turner) Thornton was a daughter of Phillip and Pricilla Turner and thus the sister of Lourinda (Turner) Bradley.
NOTE: Living next door to the family of Abraham "Abe" Micajah and Mary D. (Turner) Thornton was the household of 72 Y/O Phillip Matthew Turner, Sr., a farmer born in S.C., and his 68 Y/O wife, Pricilla (Bradley) Turner, born in S.C. Living in the household were their 33 Y/O bachelor son, Phillip Matthew Turner, Jr., a farmer, and their 12 Y/O grandson, John P. Shockley, a student born in AL. They were the parents of Lourinda (Turner) Bradley, Joseph Berry "JoBerry" Turner and Mary D. (Turner) Thornton.

The 1900 US Census of Turkeytown, Etowah Co., AL enumerated the household of the 68 Y/O widow, Lourinda R. Bradley, a farmer born in May 1832, AL. Also living in her household was her 15 Y/O grandson, Cleve T. Thompson, a farm laborer born in August 1884 in Alabama.

The 1910 US Census of Coats Bend, Etowah Co., AL enumerated the household of 58 Y/O John Hodge Hicks, a farmer born on 18 Feb 1851 in AL (NOTE: His age in this census is difficult to read and appears to be "88 Y/O" but that is incorrect, it is "58 Y/O".) Living in the household was John Hicks' 16 [sic] Y/O daughter, Addie Lois (Anis) Hicks Veazey, born in 1885 in AL. Also living in the household was John Hodge Hicks' 77 Y/O widowed mother-in-law, Lourinda (Turner) Bradley. She was the mother of John Hodge Hicks' wife, Eliza Adelaid (Bradley) Hicks. Mysteriously, this 1910 census records John Hicks as "married for 38 years" and his wife isn't living in his household but his mother-in-law is. John Hodge Hicks' wife, Eliza Adelaid (Bradley) Hicks, didn't die until 16 Oct 1929. In a separate 1910 household located in Gadsden, Etowah Co., AL, 55 Y/O Eliza (Bradley) Hicks (head of household and married for 39 years) was enumerated. Living in her household were 5 of their children ranging in age from 30 to 13. There also were two boarders residing in the household. It appears that John Hodge Hicks and his wife, Eliza Adelaid (Bradley) Hicks were separated because the 1920 US Census of Coats bend, Etowah Co., AL enumerated the household of 68 Y/O John Hodge Hicks, a farmer born in AL and his 65 Y/O wife, Eliza Adelaide (Bradley) Hicks, born in AL. Two of their children were still living in the household. Obviously, they had reconciled.

The 1912 and 1914 City Directories of Gadsden, Alabama City, Etowah Co., AL list Lourinda Bradley as a widow of Marshall Airis (Ayers) living alone at 550 South 6th St.
