Roy Richard "Dick" Riggs , 81, of Deluna Way, South Bend, went to be with his Lord at Memorial Hospital, after a brief illness following a stroke.

Richard was born February 16, 1924, in South Bend, to Roy Richard and Gladys M. (Mow) Riggs , where he remained as a lifelong resident. Roy began his 47-year engineering career in 1942 at Studebaker's where he developed military vehicles until the company's closure. He continued his engineering of the vehicles with subsequent companies including AM General Corp. until his retirement in 1989.

On April 12, 1947, at Gospel Center Missionary Church, he married Carol May (Smith), who survives, along with a son, Rick Riggs , and his wife, Erendira of Castro Valley, Ca., and two grandchildren, Celest and Richard.

Dick enjoyed his vegetable gardening and electronic hobbies. He, along with his wife, continually demonstrated their generous and loving spirit by using his skills to minister to others.

The family will receive friends from 3 PM to 8 PM Friday, November 18, in the Palmer Funeral Home -- River Park, 2528 Mishawaka Ave., South Bend, and one hour prior to services in the church. Funeral services will be held at 1 PM Saturday at Gospel Center Missionary Church, 930 S. 30th St., South Bend. Burial will follow at Southlawn Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made in lieu of flowers to Gospel Center Missionary Church - Mission Ministries Fund where he was a lifelong active member and participant.
