Grady Walter Waggener was b 1889 in Texas, the son of Walter P and Lena Waggener. Grady had two sisters: Esther E and Elizabeth 'Willie; Jane. He lived much of his early life in Texas and New Mexico, marrying Vera Younger in 1910; a daughter, Juanita Jo, was born to them in 1912 but Grady and Vera divorced shortly thereafter. In about 1920 Grady married Elsie Eva Hilburn, who had an infant daughter, Almeda, from her first marriage. A second daughter, Cleda, was born to them in 1925.

Grady served in World War I and was a Pvt 1st Class with the Ord Dept. In the late 1930's his health required him to be moved to a soldier's home. Military records indicate that he died in the V A Hospital in Fort Lyon, Colorado.
