Chesley Wilburn Buchanan was the son of Rev Newton Buchanan and Malinda Caroline Robertson of Mitchell County, North Carolina. Chesley was a house carpenter, an engineer who worked for the US Army in Washington, DC, and finally a contractor when he returned home to Mitchell County in 1944.
