Ray Evans, 72, of Carmi, passed away Thursday, February 5, 2009, at St. Mary's Medical Center in Evansville, IN.

He was born October 26, 1936, in Butler County, KY, the son of Clifton and Maxine (Ralph) Evans. He married Cleta F. Lowry on June 13, 1958, in Shawneetown, IL.

He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict. His family was his life; the oilfield was his occupation. He loved to fish and play video games. He was strong in faith and loved the Lord. He was a member of Marshall Ferry General Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Cleta F.; four sons, Gary (Margaret) Duvall of St. Louis, MO, Leon (Theresa) Duvall of Carmi, Mark Evans of Carmi, and Wesley (Carolyn) Evans of Carmi; A daughter, Victoria (Lonnie) Price of Kansas City, MO; ten grandchildren, Steven Duvall and Susan Duvall, both of St. Louis, MO, Robert (Maleah) Duvall, USMC, of California, Sandra (Charles) Siegel of Evansville, IN, Misty (Josh) Egbert of Carmi, Steven (Elisabeth) Evans of Carmi, Christina (Bill) Jordan of Georgetown, IL, Caleb Campbell and Josh Campbell, both of Carmi, and Cliff Goff of Carmi; and thirteen great-grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Ralph Evans; and a son, Larry Ray Duvall.

Funeral services will be held Sunday, February 8, 2009, at 2:00 pm, at the Stendeback Family Funeral Home/Kittinger-Fair in Carmi.

Visitation will be held from 12:00 pm until the time of service at the funeral home.

Interment will take place at Marshall Ferry Cemetery with military rites by the Carmi VFW and American Legion.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Phoenix Foundation.
