ONTARIO – Virgil W. Viers, 70, of Ontario, died Tuesday at home. Graveside services will be conducted Thursday at 10 a.m., at the Nyssa Cemetery by Rev. Harold Sanner, of Ontario First Church of the Nazarene under the direction of the Lienkaemper Chapel in Ontario.
He was born Nov. 12, 1908, at Carmen, Okla., where he was reared and educated. He married Ethel Brown on Sept. 12, 1929, at Wheatland, Wyo. They lived in the Portland area before moving to Adrian, and lived at the Kingman Colony District, where they farmed in 1944. After his retirement they moved to Jamieson, Ore., in 1971. They moved to Ontario in 1978.
Surviving are his wife of Ontario; a son, William J. Viers of Nampa; two foster sons, Danny and Roy Spencer of Ontario; a brother, Victor Viers of Eugene, Ore.; seven sisters, Mrs. Elsie Thompson and Mrs. Rose Mullen, both of Wichita, Kan., Nora Woods of Kent, Wash., Mrs. Edna Kennicott of Grand Ronde, Ore., Mrs. Ethel Jacobson of Los Angeles, Mrs. Evelyn Hanson of Ontario, Calif., and Mrs. Geneva Gracey of Castro Valley, Calif.; four grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a brother and a grandson.
Friends may call today at the chapel at Ontario from 7 to 9 p.m.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society in care of the funeral home.
