Elmer Forrest Arrington, 81, of 237 Bruce Farm Road, Statesville, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 11, 2009, at Davis Regional Medical Center.

He was born Jan. 26, 1928, in Iredell County, and was the son of the late Morgan Thomas Arrington and Winnie McHargue Arrington.

On Feb. 5, 1949, he was married to the late Mae Irene Millsaps, who died Jan. 17, 1997.

Mr. Arrington attended Iredell County schools. He was a self employed carpenter, a member of the Central Volunteer Fire Department, and a member of New Prospect Baptist Church. He loved gospel and bluegrass music, and for several years was a member of Piedmont Quartet.

In addition to his parents and wife, Mr. Arrington was preceded in death by two brothers, Harold Arrington, and an infant brother, Lester Arrington.

Survivors include a daughter, Valerie A. Hobbs (Larry) of Statesville; a son, Lester F. Arrington (Karen) of Statesville; four grandchildren, Rusty Arrington (Jennie) of Troutman, Krystal Arrington of Statesville, Stephen Hobbs (Sharon) of Statesville, and Chris Hobbs (Rhonda) of Statesville; two great-grandchildren, Colton and Cambrie Hobbs; a brother, Tom Arrington (Rachael) of Olin; a sister, Clara Welborn of Statesville; and a sister-in-law, Annie Arrington of Statesville.

Funeral services will be conducted at 3 p.m. Saturday at New Prospect Baptist Church with the Rev. Joey Campbell, the Rev. Dwight Dowell and the Rev. Bobby Henderson officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7-8:30 p.m. this evening at Nicholson Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Gordon Hospice House, 2347 Simonton Road, Statesville, NC 28625; or to Gideon's International, P.O. Box 1321, Statesville, NC 28687.

Nicholson Funeral Home is serving the family of Elmer Arrington.
