Roy Edward Whitney, 81, of Cleburne formerly of Talco, died Friday, May 5, 2006, in Fort Worth.

Services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, May 9, 2006, at Bates-Cooper-Sloan Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Gaylon Riddle officiating. Interment followed at Midway Cemetery in Talco under the direction of Bates-Cooper-Sloan Funeral Home. Pallbearers were Carl Hall, David Hall, David Shuler, Larry Hayes, Steven Avila and Adam Whitney.

Mr. Whitney was born April 12, 1925, in Talco the son of Walter Lee and Vera "Smith" Whitney. He was a veteran and had worked in the construction business. He was of the Baptist faith.

He is survived by his wife, Cora Lee "Curlee" Whitney of Cleburne; three sons and a daughter-in-law, James Whitney of Kopperl, Ralph Whitney of Cleburne and Tommy and Charlotte Whitney of Godley; two daughters, Linda Avila of Denison and Bettie Whitney of Godley; 14 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a son, Wayne Whitney; his parents; six brothers, Farris Whitney, Johnny Coot Whitney, Henry Whitney, Billy Ray Whitney, Earl D. Whitney and Robert Whitney; and a sister, Evelyn Hall.
