Helen Marion Williams was born to James Monroe Williams and Rachel Lucinda (Crofoot) Williams at Pine Grove, in what was then Sierra County, California during the period of her father's gold mining operations. Her earliest years were spent amid the flurry that was the gold-mining excitement of those early days, and when she was almost five her family moved and settled in the fall of 1860 in Santa Rosa, becoming some of the earliest residents there.

Helen married Frederick Gough Nagle on April 29, 1875 in Santa Rosa.
In the "Russian River Flag" (a Healdsburg newspaper) on May 6, 1875, we find the notice for their marriage:
" MARRIED.
NAGLE-WILLIAMS—In Santa Rosa, April
29, 1875, by Rev. F. M. Dimmick, F. G. NAGLE
to Miss Nellie WILLIAMS."

The new family settled at 808 3rd St., and in 1880 Frederick and Helen were living with their sons Arthur F. (age three), Ralph G. (age one) and Walter H. (age 2 months).
In 1900 Frederick and Helen were still living in Santa Rosa with their three sons, their four year old daughter Helen C. Nagle, and Mrs. Nagle's father James M. Williams.
By 1910 the family included a granddaughter Phyllis B. Nagle (daughter of Ralph G. & Inez Nagle).
In 1920 only Frederick (now age 71), Helen (age 68) and their granddaughter Phyllis (age 12) were living at the Nagle home on Third Street in Santa Rosa.
In 1930, Helen (being recently widowed in 1928) was living in Sacramento with her granddaughter Phyllis Nagle; they are in the home of her son-in-law Ray H. Mills and daughter Helen Catherine (Nagle) Mills.

Helen M. Nagle died on 28 Nov 1844 in Stockton, California, being the last of James and Rachel's children to pass away. She is buried next to her husband Frederick.
