JOHN FRANKLIN BARTON
John Franklin Barton was the first born son of Isaac Newton Barton III, who proudly recorded the joyous event in his Bible as follows: Page Two, Family Births - John Franklin Barton was born 2 January 1888. His death was recorded in the said by his sister Bertha as follows: Page Four, Family Deaths - "John F. Barton died Saturday, 1 September 1951, age 63."

John was raised and secured fair education in the common schools of Rockingham county, Virginia. Upon attaining his majority, he started out in life on his own account. John married the sixteen year-old maiden, Georgia Swain on 16 March 1917 in Akron, Summit County, Ohio and to this wedded bliss were born two sons, Edward M. and Robert Louis. John's tireless energy, keen perception and honesty of purpose, combined with every-day common sense, were among his chief characteristics for which he will long be remembered.

John first engaged as a laborer, making his home in Summit County, Ohio, where he procured employment with an Akron rubber factory. The family resided in Copley, Medina County, Ohio at the time of their son, Robert's birth. The family was forced to relocate due to the construction of a dam prior to 1930. At which time, John purchased several acres rural property on Blake Road in Guilford township. He became an employee of the Injector Works prior to excepting employment as a laborer in the shipping department of the Ohio Match company, both of which, were located in Wadsworth. The family sold their farm and removed to a nice home located at 190 Chestnut Street in the city of Wadsworth between 1947 and 1948. John and his family attended the Wadsworth Nazarene church and adhered to its strict religious guidelines. The couple were permitted to wear simple gold wedding bands although, many of the modern day technological devices, such as television, was prohibited. John passed away in the couple's Chestnut Street home on 1 September 1951 and was interred in the Woodlawn Cemetery in downtown Wadsworth.

John's death certificate was filed with the Ohio Department of Health Division of Vital Statistics and depicts the following: John Franklin Barton, SSN 294012640, age 63, white married male, born 2 January 1888 in Harrisonburg, Virginia to Isaac Barton and Mahalia Hottinger. He died at 10:15 p.m. on 1 September 1951 at his residence, 190 Chestnut Street, Wadsworth, Medina County, Ohio. John was not a veteran of the Armed Forces and was employed by the Ohio Match Company as a laborer in the shipping department at the time of his death.

The disease or condition which led directly to his death was recorded as a Rupture of the Osophogael Varicose Vessel. The interval between it's onset and his death was two years. Also listed were conditions giving rise to cause of his death - Arteriosclerotic heart disease, with failure. John had been treated for his heart condition from November 1947 through 1 September 1951 by Arthur F. Way M.D. of Seville, Ohio. The said doctor signed his death certificate 3 September 1951. John was embalmed by William J. Schlup, license no. 4872-A. Funeral director: Chas. W. Bicksler, license no. 317, Bicksler Funeral Home. He was interred in Woodlawn Cemetery on 4 September Note: Woodlawn Cemetery records reflect a 3 September burial. Informant - John's wife, Georgia Barton.

Inscriptions
John and Georgia were interred in Section 26, Lot 151 South, graves three and four. Their final resting place is graced with a lovely black granite upright marker, inscribed as follows: BARTON John F. 1888-1951 and Georgia A. 1901-1991.

1900 US Census, Linville District, Rockingham County, Virginia, recorded, 15 June 1900, p8A, lines 34-41. Each born in Virginia as were their parents. Barton Isaac N. head age 36, married 12 years, born May 1864, occupation farm laborer, can't read or write, rented home. Mohaley A. wife age 37, married 12 years, born March 1863, mother of seven children - seven living, can't read or write. Children: John son age 12, born Jan 1888, student, can't read or write. Sallie F. daughter age 11, born Nov 1888, student, can't read or write. Jacob I. son age 9, born Nov 1890, student, can't read or write. William A. son age 6, born Jun 1893, student, can't read or write. Mamie A. daughter age 4, born in March 1896. Mary A. daughter age 2, born Jan 1898. NOTE: Mahala's oldest child, Annie Rebecca Hottinger, born in 1881, was not included on this report.

A possible John Barton was located on the 1910 US Census in Conneaut, Ashtabula County, Ohio. John Barton, age 22, no birth place listed. He was depicted as a border in the home of John Wendell, as was a Raphiel Barton, age 22.

1920 US Census, Kenmore, Summit County, Ohio, recorded 13 January 1920, p19A, lines 45-47, Barton: John F. age 32, born in Virginia as were his parents, owns a home. Occupation: Rubber Factory Worker. Georgia wife age 19, born in West Virginia as were her parents. Edward son age 2, born in Ohio.

John and Georgia resided in Copley, Medina Co., Ohio at the time of the birth of their sons, relocating to Guilford township prior to 1930, due to the construction of a local dam.

Barton: John F. age 42, married at age 28, born in Virginia as were his parents, owns a home valued at $3400. Occupation: Molder at Injection Works. Georgia A. wife age 29, married at age 16, born in West Virginia as were her parents. Edward M. son age 12, student, born in Ohio. Robert L. son age 5, born in Ohio.
