September 20 was a sad day for the kinfolk of Evelyn Lenore Campbell, 88, who died in the early morning hours at Fenton Extended Care Center.

She left two daughters and sons-in-law by her first marriage – Linda and Mike Schaefer of Brea, CA and Gloria and Danny Leffler of Northville; two granddaughters and their spouses, Lori and Ed Osborne and Kari and Tony Mano; a granddaughter, Lisa Leffler; and three great-grandchildren, Edward and Daniel Mano and Victoria Osborne.

Born Evelyn Fenger, she married her first husband, Gerald Ziegler, in 1943. Ziegler worked for the secretary of State. He died in 1973.

Evelyn Ziegler married husband Donald J. Campbell in 1983. He was a former owner of the Holly Herald Advertiser. Donald's first wife, Helen was a schoolteacher in Holly, Michigan, area schools.

By her second marriage to Donald J. Campbell, she was survived by two sons, Alan Campbell, who is publisher-owner of the Leelanau Enterprise, and his wife Deborah and their son Cody; and Stuart Campbell and his son, Scotty.

Donald and Evelyn Campbell enjoyed may sea cruises together visiting Hawaii, Mexico, plus many south sea islands. One of their favorite cruises was to the Hawaiian Islands where they visited the sunken Battleship from World War II, the Arizona, which is still sending short gobs of oil upward from it's sunken grave. They met many friends on these cruises and learned a lot about foreign ports. In Holly they were members of the Presbyterian Church where Donald served as an Elder. He still is active in the church. They were members of the Walkers Club in Holly, which every Monday night walked around the perimeters of Holly.

In her early years Evelyn worked on the elections board in Livonia, and served as a Sunday school teacher in the Lutheran Church there. She also was a doctor's assistant in the Livonia area.

Funeral: Dryer Funeral Home, Holly with the Rev. Randy Cullen officiating.
