Charles Edward Prince, age 84, Russellville, Ala., passed away Monday, Feb. 9, 2009.

Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 11, 2009, at Akins Funeral Home. The 1 p.m. funeral service will be Thursday, Feb. 12, 2009, in the funeral home chapel, with military honors. Brother Charlie Britnell and Larry Prince will officiate. Interment will be in Franklin Memory Gardens.

Pallbearers will be grandsons, Phillip Prince, Hunter Prince, Tanner Prince, Blake Prince, Brock Prince, Blake Jackson and Austin Prince. Honorary pallbearers will be Ed Lawhead, James Brown, Lynn Brown, Chuck and Alan Britnell.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Nellie Marie Brown Prince; parents, Laborn A. and Floyd Gamble Prince; brothers, Walter Prince, Howard Prince, Raymond Prince, William Prince and Eurdine Prince; sisters, Lorene Winsted, Beatrice Stone, Dadine Prince and Bessie Rasmussen.

He is survived by sons, Larry (Jennie ) Prince, Ronald (Marqueta) Prince, Anthony (Jodi) Prince; brother, Hoyt Prince; sisters, Inez King, Madge Randolph; grandchildren, Phillip (Mikki) Prince, Hunter Prince, Lynn Ponder, Erin (Ken) Lindsey, Tanner Prince, Nathalie (John) Crane, Blake Prince, Brock Prince, Blake Jackson, Megan Jackson and Austin Prince; seven great-grandchildren; brother-in-law, James Brown; a very special niece, Nellie Pugh; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.

He was a member of Centerview Church of Christ, American Legion, Commander of VAW and a World War II veteran. He was a recipient of the Good Conduct Medal, American Service Medal, World War II Victory Medal, ATO medal, APTO medal, Philippine Lib Rib w/one bronze star, and the Purple Heart.

Papa Ed worked many years as a heavy construction laborer crossing the country laying pipelines. Some of his greatest memories were having the opportunity to work on the Alaskan Pipe Line. He took great joy in his family and friends and will be remembered as preparing large meals of which everyone was welcome at his table. "Come on in, sit down, eat, and visit for a while." He had the ability to make everyone feel loved.
