Alef was born in Norway and immigrated to the United States
when he was eight years old. He grew up at Arena, Wisc.
In 1881 he came to Hamlin County where he Homesteaded close
to the present town of Hayti. In 1882 he married Mary Hanson who had a homestead accross the road from him. They
built their home on her land and the barn on his. There they raised a family of eight children. In 1917 Alef and Mary moved to Tex. because of his health. He operated a fruit farm there until his death in 1938.
