SAM LESTER TURNER, 58, of Memphis, husband of Stella Davenport Turner, alumnus of Geeter High School, retiree of V.A. Hospital and the U.S. Marines, died on Friday, February 6, 2009 at his residence. Visitation will be held on Thursday, February 12 from 6-8 p.m. at Mt. Sinai Missionary Baptist Church, 4920 HOrn Lake Rd. He will lie in state on Friday, February 13 from 11-11:55 a.m. at Mt. Sinai Missionary Baptist Church, where he was a member. Funeral ceremony will follow at 12 noon. Interment with military honors will be on Friday, February 13 at 2 p.m. in West Tennessee Veterans Cemetery, 4000 Forest Hill Irene Rd. He leaves to cherish his memory his loving and supporting wife, Stella Davenport Turner; three children, Torry Carbins Turner, Tashia Carbins Turner and Toya Carbins Turner; one brother, Robert Turner (Evelyn); two brothers-in-law, Eddie Davenport (Barbara), Lucious Davenport (Cassandra); four sisters-in-law, Forestine Hewitt, Mae Francis Houston, Evelyn Hughes and Fannie Harris; six grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends to celebrate his life and homegoing.
