Ruth Canada Chandler of Bedford, IN, died Sunday, August 2, 1998, at her residence. Born on June 15, 1916, in Lawrence County, IN, she was the daughter of Milton and Anna (Pace) Canada. She first married Russell Umphress and he preceded her in death. She married Earl M. Chandler on July 3, 1940, and he survives.

Also surviving are four sons: Howard M. Chandler of Pensacola, FL, Morgan V. Chandler of Lake City, FL, Jerry M. Chandler of North Vernon, IN, and Michael E. Chandler of Bedford, IN; one daughter, Carole Anderson of Albuquerque, NM; one half-brother, James Canada of Omaha, NB; one half-sister Catherine Howell of Leesville, IN; nine grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one son in infancy, and one brother, James Eisle.

She retired from General Motors Powertrain (Central Foundry) in 1978 and was a member of the Eagles and the American Legion Auxiliaries.

Graveside services for Ruth Chandler will be at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, August 6th, at Pinhook Cemetery.
