Victor A. Snyder, 63, Canton, died Monday February 9, 2009 at Canton-Potsdam Hospital, Potsdam.

He worked for the village of Potsdam Department of Public Works and then was a custodian for the Canton-Potsdam Hospital, Potsdam, for many years until becoming disabled.

Born Victor Gardner on May 26, 1945, in Potsdam, son of Douglas and Agnes Norman Gardner, he attended school in Potsdam. He married Deborah Anne Snyder in 1995 and adopted the name Snyder after his marriage. Mrs. Snyder died April 25, 2005.

Surviving are a son, Jason Snyder, Canton; five brothers, Leonard Gardner, Utica, Norman Gardner, Potsdam, David Gardner, Malone, Ronald Gardner, Ogdensburg, and Bruce Gardner, Plattsburgh; and two sisters, Darlene Besaw Gardner, and Cheryl Gardner, both of Potsdam.

Two brothers, Richard and Gary Gardner, and two sisters, Patricia and Annette Gardner, died before him.

There are no calling hours or funeral service. Spring burial will be in Crary Mills Cemetery. Arrangements are with Garner Funeral Home, Potsdam. Donations may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care of St. Lawrence Valley.
