PEORIA, IL - James Smallwood Sr., 61, of Peoria, passed away at 5:43 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 1, 2009, at OSF Saint Francis Medical Center with his family by his side.
Jim was born June 22, 1947, in Jasper, Ala., to Lester W. and Rosie Etta Samuels Smallwood. He married Rosalie "Rosie" Marie Campbell in Gridley, Ill., on April 19, 1969. She survives.
Also surviving are two sons, James (Angie) Smallwood Jr. and Lonnie Laws; two daughters, Tracy (Alan) Farrar and Jennifer (Shane) Nagel; one sister, Geraldine Ernst and nine grandchildren, Zach, Ashley, Scott, Paige, Jay, Natasha, Drake, Trevor and Chad.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Jim worked for Caterpillar Inc. in Mapleton for 33 years. After retiring in 2002, he worked for the Peoria Park District as a landscaper for three years.
Jim was a member of Lamarsh Baptist Church in Mapleton, where his funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 5, 2009. Pastor Brian Rahn will officiate. Visitation will be on from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Endsley Funeral Home in Bartonville. Burial will be in Maple Ridge Cemetery.
