ReNee Irene Perry, 37, Pocatello, died Monday morning, January 26, 2009 at a local medical center.
ReNee was born March 23, 1971 at Lost River's Hospital in Arco, Idaho to Garth and Susan Powell.
ReNee developed a love of dance as a young child. From age 4 through her early teen years, she twirled and ball changed her way through ballet, tap and toe dancing classes and recitals, even stealing the spotlight in a few starring roles. Never one to shy away from attention, you can imagine how much she enjoyed performing while wearing those "glitzy" costumes.
ReNee just had fun being a kid. She was very active and less of an "indoor girl" than you might have imagined, she loved to spend time outside. ReNee loved to ice skate when Arco had a skating rink, especially loved the chance to go to Sun Valley or Idaho Falls to skate at the rinks there. She was a very good skier, learning to ski at Soldier & Blizzard Mountains and enjoyed snowmobiling. Later she traded the ice skates in for roller skates. She "rolled" all over town looking for any flat stretch of concrete, parking lot or sidewalk. Eventually she hung up the skates and opted for bike rides and going for walks instead.
ReNee was a Brownie and Girl Scout from first grade through middle school. She loved everything about scouting - camping and cookouts, troop and state activities, sleepovers and of course - COOKIE SALES. ReNee participated in 4-H Summer Programs as well, which is probably what helped encourage her adult love of gardening, freezing & canning.
ReNee attended Butte County Schools throughout her k-12 education, graduating with honors in 1989. She was always a good student who took pride in getting good grades and being on the Honor Roll. She loved to learn and study, believing it was truly a privilege to go to school.
ReNee thrived during her school years. She was the "stereotypical over-achiever" - balancing friends, great grades and lots of activities both inside and outside of school. School activities included playing flute in the pep band, managing the girls volleyball team, drill team, and National Honor Society. If there was a committee to plan it - ReNee was there - dances, homecoming events, pep assemblies, spirit week challenges, you name it. If volunteers were needed, ReNee was at the top of the list. Her classmates will tell you that their most vivid memories are of ReNee's smile, her laughter and her friendship.
She was active in Job's Daughters - holding most available offices including Honored Queen. Again, always in the middle of organizing fundraisers, special trips, games and always FUN!
Outside of school, ReNee's activities centered around her faith. An active member of Baptist Community Church in Arco while growing up, she participated in youth activities, taught Sunday school and was a youth helper with Vacation Bible School in the summers.
ReNee continued her education after high school, attended Idaho State University from 1989 to 1993, graduating with a degree in Business Management with an emphasis on Human Resources and Personnel Management. Now comes the "good stuff"
It was at ISU that ReNee met Lance Perry. He swept her off her feet with his "good southern charm, and once he made Sweet Tea for her, she was hooked. They married on January 14, 1994 right here at First Baptist Church. Lance & ReNee just celebrated their 15th wedding anniversary 2 weeks ago with a special candlelight dinner lovingly prepared by their friend, Ramona.
Immediately following the wedding, Lance whisked her way from God's Country to Greer, South Carolina (which I am pretty sure she referred to as the most humid place on the planet?) Lance had a position with Air Centers of South Carolina. About a year later, they moved to Columbia, South Carolina to manage the Columbia office of Air Centers. ReNee was hired by Wachovia Banking Systems in Columbia working in their call center offices. This was a job she excelled at and truly enjoyed.
On May 11, 1998, their first child, daughter Laura Madeline Perry, was born at Baptist Medical Center in Columbia.
December 1998, the family moved back to Pocatello, Idaho. ReNee worked as office manager for Cascade Earth Sciences for a couple of years before obtaining her current position with Pocatello School District #25 where she worked as the Office Manager and Secretary for the Food Services Division. She loved her job, the many great people she worked with and tasks she accomplished. She took great pride in her work, always looking for new challenges.
On February 26, 2004, they welcomed their son, Kyral Marcus-Benjamin Perry, born at Portneuf Medical Center in Pocatello.
ReNee's greatest JOY in all the world was being a mother. Her children brought her unequaled happiness. When Laura was born, she helped create a loving family. She looked so much like her Mama, as fathers think their daughters should. ReNee wanted Laura to experience all the fun she did growing up, and encouraged her participation in the activities she showed interest in including things ReNee herself had loved - Girl Scouts, riding bikes, and crafts.
And how she loved her son, Kyral. From the very beginning, she was captivated by this bright eyed, very very active, fun and exciting little boy. She always had stories about his antics, always so busy, happy and smart.
The Perry family have been very active members here at First Baptist Church in Pocatello. ReNee served on a variety of committees, worked actively in church outreach programs benefiting the community, sang in the choir and served as Church Board Clerk. ReNee had a wonderful faith that provided her hope, comfort and peace throughout all the stages of her life. Anyone who knew her knew that about her.
When I think of ReNee, the thing that most impressed me about her was her ability to make people important. She had the most incredible memory for the things that are most important - birthdays, anniversaries, spouses' and children's names and their birthdays. She would not only remember them, but took time to honor them. She worked hard to keep up her connections with all the people who ever mattered to her - whether she had known them for a month or her whole life, whether she had spoken with them last week or five years ago. That effort is evidenced by the friends and family who traveled hundreds of miles to be here today. That love of memories is also what ReNee loved about scrapbooking. She wanted to share all those experiences that were important to her with everyone who was important to her.
ReNee is survived by her husband, Lance, daughter Laura, son Kyral, mother and step-father, Sue and Don Glenn of Arco, father and step-mother Garth and Phyllis Powell of Arco, brother, Glen Powell (Joni) of Pocatello, step-sister, Kelly Daugherty (Rod), Kennesaw, Georgia, step-brother, Don Glenn, Jr. (Kim) of Firth, grandfather, William Cox of Chubbuck, in-laws Ellen and Ed Pugh of Thayne, Wyoming, sister-in-law Kat Schuman of Ogden, Utah, various nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.
Funeral services were held Thursday, January 29, 2009 at 5:00 p.m. in the First Baptist Church, 408 N. Arthur, Pocatello. The family received friends one hour prior to services in the church. Interment was in the Arco Cemetery, Arco, Idaho, Friday, January 30, 2009 at 12:00 noon. Arrangements are under the direction of the Cornelison~Henderson Funeral Home, 431 N. 15th Ave., Pocatello.
