George Randall Riggen was born August 26, 1911, in East Sidell, Vermillion County, Illinois, the son of James Edwin and Maude Daisy (Cable) Riggen.

George first married Janet Lorraine Collins in 1933. Their marriage license was listed in the Muscatine Journal 16 Dec 1933, page 9 as having been issued in Rockford, Illoinois. Janet was born April 18, 1916, in Muscatine, Muscatine County, Iowa, the daughter of Clifford Hart and Eva Maud (Drury) Collins. This marriage ended in divorce and there were no children. Janet then married Robert Mathew Ryan in Las Vegas, Nevada in 1969. Janet died August 5, 1981, in Iowa City, Iowa.

George then married Mildred E. Hayes. The issuance of their marriage license was published in the November 20, 1936, edition of the Herald and Review (Decatur, Illinois) on page 34:

George R. Riggen, 25, Mildred Haase, 21, both of Charleston.

Mildred was born January 8, 1915, in Allerton, Vermilion County, Illinois, the daughter of Oscar William and Jessie A. (Schmink) Hayes. This marriage was quickly annulled and Mildred then married Edward Wallace Kazmark. Mildred died October 16, 1996, in Rochester Hills, Oakland County, Michigan.

George married his third wife; Viola Mae Hopkins on February 9, 1939, in Yuma County, Arizona. Viola was born September 27, 1919, in Bend, Deschutes County, Oregon, the daughter of Heber Nicholas and Velva Lavina (Stanley) Hopkins. George and Viola had two sons and one daughter. This marriage also ended in divorce and Viola died September 21, 2010, in Joplin, Jasper County, Missouri.

George served with the U. S. Marine Corps from September 1929 to August 1944. He was stationed in Pearl Harbor in 1931.

George died August 28, 1974, in Denver City and County, Colorado.
