He was born Feb. 10, 1943, in Shawnee, Ohio, and was a resident of Elyria for many years. Rev. Ray also lived in Chatham Township from 1988 to 2005. He was employed as a fork lift operator at General Motors Fisher Guide Plant in Elyria for 23 years. He then attended the Ohio Police Academy and was employed as a security guard at both Medina General Hospital and Lodi Community Hospital for seven years.
Rev. Ray also was a licensed minister under the Assemblies of the Lord Jesus Christ. He served as pastor in West Salem at First United Pentecostal Church from 1968 to 1978, then served as pastor in Vermilion at Calvary Apostolic Church from 1981 to 1982. He then served as pastor in Chatham at the Apostolic Lighthouse from 1983 to 2005 and was currently attending Calvary Apostolic Church in Elyria, where he preached as recently as this past Sunday evening. Rev. Ray loved preaching the word of God and spending time with his family. He also enjoyed his pet poodle, Misty. He was a veteran, serving in the Army from 1960 to 1961.
Rev. Ray is survived by his beloved wife of 47 years, Sharon (nee Kline); daughters, Christina Norris and Dwanna (Paul) O'Hare, both of Elyria; sons, Michael (Karen) of West Salem and Samuel (Becky) of Creston; and grandchildren, Jason, Angel, Michael, Henry, Hannah and Denny Ray, and Nathaniel, Jacob, Faith, Keri and Brian O'Hare. His first great-grandson is due to arrive in September.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Martha (nee Lewis) Ray; brother, Allen Ladd Ray; grandmother, Etta Eubanks; and son-in-law, Donnie R. Norris.
Service: noon Friday at Abundant Life Christian Center, 315 Morgan Ave., Elyria. Pastors Rod Pamer and Alan Westmoreland will co-officiate.
Burial: Brookdale Cemetery in Elyria, where members of VFW Post 1079 in Elyria will conduct full military honors.
