Author. A beloved children's novelist who wrote books for girls. She is best known for the "Nesthäkchen" series, a ten volume collection that follows a Berlin doctor's daughter, Annemarie Braun, from infancy to old age. The most popular volume was the fourth, "Nesthäkchen and the World War", published in 1922 and translated into English for the first time in 2006. During the Holocaust, Ury, who was Jewish, was prevented from publishing, robbed of her possessions, deported to Auschwitz and gassed to death the day after she arrived.
