Minnie Jeffrey, of Eldon, began her life in this world on Nov. 8, 1913 in Fairfield, Iowa. Minnie was the fourth child born to Henry and Edith (Anderson) Johansmeier.

She grew up in rural Batavia with brothers, Edwin and Ernest, and sisters, Evelyn, Clara and Alice. Minnie graduated eighth-grade from Bumble Bee Country School and attended Batavia High School. What a wonderful, full life it has been. In 1913, a first-class stamp cost two cents, the first crossword puzzle appeared in a New York newspaper and Woodrow Wilson was President of the United States.

On Aug. 19, 1930 she and John Jeffrey were married in Agency, Iowa. They were proud parents to 15 children; Charles (Betty) Jeffrey, Joann (Arlen) Chambers, Margaret (Norman) Shelby, Ruthie (Dwayne) Rogers, Marilyn (Art) Carter, Donna (Bill) Hulbert, Arlene (Jim) Kildow, Jerry Jeffrey, Dennis (Donna) Jeffrey, Carol (Joe) Turner, Linda (Richard) Coon, Kathryn (Richard) Jones, Ronnie Jeffrey, Rhonda Jeffrey and Debra (Joe) Murphy.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two brothers, two sisters and two daughters, Marilyn and Rhonda.

She is survived by her sister, Alice Sommers of Agency, Iowa and many loving grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.Minnie joined the Eldon Christian Church in 1973. She was instrumental in beginning the Senior Meals project in Eldon. Minnie was Grand Marshall in the 2003 Eldon Gothic Days Parade.Minnie enjoyed simple pleasures, one of which was receiving free puzzles from the Bits and Pieces Puzzle Company, which she then shared with other puzzle lovers. Children and their toys were a special love – she left behind a spinning top, block set and toy train for the little ones who visited her. Minnie's angel food cake and glaze will never be replicated and missed now and at future family meals. Minnie was an amazing mother, always loving and patient.

She spent 95 years on earth and on Feb. 6, 2009 joined her many loved ones in heaven.

A celebration of Minnie's life will be on Tuesday, Feb. 10, 2009 at 10:30 a.m. at the Eldon Christian Church with Pastors Josh Gordon and David Albert officiating.

Casket bearers will be her sons, Charles, Jerry, Dennis and Ronnie and sons-in-law, Jim Kildow, Richard Jones and Joe Murphy. Honorary Casket bearers are sons-in-law, Arlen Chambers, Norman Shelby, Dwayne Rogers, Bill Hulbert and Joe Turner.
