Henry L. Rose, born Seaford, Delaware, April 6, 1811, was the son of Truman and Mary (Tull) Rose. He married Nancy Marvel of Sussex Co. (Sussex marriage bonds Vol. 43 p. 183 February 8, 1843). They went West and settled at Waverly, Iowa, where he died December 30, 1894. Mr. Rose was a builder and contractor. He was in business in Odessa, Delaware for many years, where he built the Methodist Church and other substantial buildings.

ROSE-Mr. Henry L. Rose, an old resident coming to Waverly about 1860 died last Sunday morning. He was born at Seaford, Delaware in 1811, and was married to Mary Marvel in 1834, who died here in 1866. They had seven children of whom were Theodore, Clayton, Mrs. A.K. Baskins, Mrs. J.G. St. John, Mrs. Adelia St John, now deceased. Mr. Rose was a very modest gentleman, very unobrusive in his ways, a devout christian and had been a member of the Methodist church for nearly fory years. His funeral at the Methodist church Tuesday afternoon was largely attended testifying the general esteem in which he was held.
