Ormon Ralph Weight passed away February 2, 2009 at the age of 99 at his home in Holladay, Utah.
Ormon was born October 20, 2909 in Springville, Utah to Ralph Brough Weight and Minerva Bryan. He graduated from Springville high School in 1927 and from Brigham Young University in 1931. He married his sweetheart, Fern Amelia Jones on September 2, 1931 in the Manti temple.
He left a musical legacy spanning 70 years. He taught music at both primary and secondary levels. He served and retired as the Granite District music supervisor. He organized the Granite Youth symphony. professionally, representing Utah on a state and national level, he served as President of the following: Salt Lake County Teachers Assoc., Granite Education Assoc., Utah Education Assoc., Utah Music Educators Assoc., including NEA delegate. He was appointed chairman of the Utah Music Educators Legislative Committtee obtaining several million dollars for music in Utah schools. He served as President of Young Audiences of Utah Inc. (Arts, Inc.) then the Board of Directors until his passing. He sang in the Utah Chorale. Ormon was awarded the "Utah Outstanding Music Educator Award." As a devoted member of the church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, he was a temple ordinance worker for 30 years, a member of the Tabernacle choir, coordinator of Temple Square hosts, Olympus Stake music director, ward and stake missionary, and ward music committee chairman until the present. He conducted a regional choir in general conference introducing the current hymn book. His love for family and others was a hallmark of his life. He exemplified our family theme song, "Love One Another". Dad reached out to everyone of all ages who felt of his love. He has been a shining example of integrity and commitment to serving others through music. He had the ability to instill the love of music to all around him. Our family have all been touched and strengthened by his genuine love and devotion to us.
He was preceded in death by his beloved Fern Amelia Jones, daughter Gay Cottrell, son Howard, sons in law Keith Rupp and Robert Cottrell, parents Ralph Brough Weight and Minerva Bryan, brothers Wilford and Vaun, sisters wilda Oakley and Gladys Robbins, grandchildren Linda Gay and J. Dale Cottrell.
Survived by brother Newell B., children Dixie Rupp, Cherie Van Ry (Jack), J. Ormon (Avey), Harold (Peggy), Mark (Sandie), Nadine Page (Steve), Christine Price (Paul), Shirley Mellor, 41 grandchildren, 77 Great grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.
