Son of Conrad Alder and Elizabeth Mertz

Married Julia Ann Theurer, 11 Dec 1899, Logan, Cache, Utah

Biography - Conrad was born May 18, 1866 in Providence, Utah. A son of Konrad Alder and Elizabeth Merz (or Mertz).

When he was just a young boy his father died and his mother remarried. When she and her new husband moved, he opted to stay in Providence and live with John Theurer. His two sisters moved with their parents. Excepting when he served a mission for the LDS church, he lived all his life in Providence, and out on the dry farm, near Malad, Idaho part time in the summers.

He married Julia Anna Theurer, daughter of Fredrick Theurer on Dec. 11, 1889 in the Logan, Utah temple. They had eight children - Leon Conrad, Rachel Vilate, Fredrick Theurer, Idell Christina (who died just before she turned 30 years old), Mae Elizabeth, Preston Denton, Owen Edwin and LaRee.

After their 5th child was born, he went on a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to Germany. While on this mission he was in the home of Alexander Schriener's father many times. One day he picked up Alexander and sat him on his knee and thought, "What will this dirty faced boy ever be?" Alexander Schriener after moving to Salt Lake City Utah, became the organist for the Tabernacle and also composed many pieces. I'm sure Conrad was just very homesick for his little family back in Utah.

He was a successful farmer. When in his old age he broke his leg encouraging his retirement, but spent many hours out in his garden and was noted for his beautiful rose garden.

The home he and his wife lived in was the original Providence school house. It was moved to the comer of 2nd East and Center Street. There it was remodeled and added on, and in 2011 it is still standing and lived in.

On April 19, 1947 he died in his home, having been lovingly cared for by his daughter, Mae, from tuberculosis.
