SMITHVILLE - Howard Coker, 90, died Monday, Dec. 1, 1997, at the Gilmore Memorial Hospital in Amory. He was born Dec. 8, 1906, in the Bethlehem community of Monroe County to Tommy and Nola Bowling Coker. He grew up in Smithville and attended Pearce Chapel Schooll. He married Irene Spann Coker in 1927; she died in 1993. He lived in Zion, Ill., from 1949 to 1974 when he moved to Smithville. He was employed by the Johns Mannville Co. n Waukegan, Ill., retiring in 1968. He was a member of the Meadowood Baptist Church, seving as a deacon and a Sunday School teacher. He enjoyed fishing.

Services will be at 2 p.m. today at Pickle Funeral Home Chapel in Amory with Bro. Lewis Coker and Bro. Tommy Whalley officiating. Burail will be in the Bethlehem Cemetery.

Survivors include his wife, Zula Mae Jackson Tucker Coker of Smithville, whom he married in 1994; two sons, Donald Coker and his wife, Jean, and Lewis Coker and his wife, Myrna, all of Smithville; two daughter, Opal Moffett of Smithville, and Joy Bell Walden and her husband, Lawrence, of Wren; one sister, Irene Cox of Amory; 13 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, five great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in daeth by a brother Durwood Coker, and a sister, Orene Addington.

Pallbearers will be Ronnie Frederick, Larry Walden, Jerry Walden, Byron Coker and Lewis Coker.
