Ronald Lee Crews Sr., 49, of Woodbine, died Thursday afternoon (May 6, 2004) at his sister's residence in Woodbine after a courageous battle with cancer.

A native of Charlton County, he was the son of Oscar and Leona Jacobs Crews.

Before his illness Mr. Crews worked in the construction industry as a heavy equipment operator, and was of the Baptist faith.

Survivors include eight children, Ronald Lee Crews Jr., of Waycross, Rachel Clary, Rebekah Merriman, both of Woodbine, Rhonda Herrin, Buffy Herrin and Randy Herrin, all of Nahunta, Michelle Crews, of Augusta and Jessica Crews of Waycross; nine grandchildren; seven brothers and sisters, Delbert Crews, of Grand Rapids, Mich., Margie Rhodes, of Augusta, Charles Crews of Waynesville, Horace Crews of Augusta, Bobby Crews of St. Marys, Goldie Benassi of Waynesville and Lorna Marr of Woodbine; also several nieces, nephews and other relatives. Visitation will be tonight starting at 6 at the funeral home.

A graveside service will be Saturday afternoon at 3 in New Hope Cemetery in Hickox, with the Rev. Randy Wainright officiating. Pallbearers will be Michael Marr, Phillip Marr, Joseph Marr, Bobby Price, Donavan Gatlin and Chris Clary.

Arrangements are with Chambless-Frye Funeral Home of Nahunta.
