The daughter of Henry Heckendorn and Harriet Chandler. Married Thomas William Hickox December 27 1847 in Coolspring, Jefferson County, PA at the age 14 years old.

Mrs. Mary E. Hickox died Saturday night at her home in this city and was buried this morning from the Rock Island M.E. church. The deceased was 68 years old and had been an invalid for some time. She was a member of the Methodist church and was a woman of sterling worth, a loving and devoted mother and kind and loyal friend. The sympathy of the community goes out in tenderness and love to the children, grandchildren and other relatives who are left to mourn her loss.

Mother Hickox departed this life Sunday. She had been sick with kidney and heart disease, but seemed to be improving until a few days ago, when her friends gave up hope of her recovery. She was 71 years of age and leaves two sons, Reuben and Harry, to mourn the loss of a dear mother and faithful counsellor and friend. The funeral services were conducted at the R.I.M.E. Church by Rev. Ross, of which church Mrs. Hickox was a faithful, consistent member. The family have the sympathy of many friends in their great loss.
