Hugh was a veteran of World War II. He was the oldest son of Adam Berle Clements and Linnie Isabel Hardin. Siblings were Winnie, Edmond Leon "Pete", Aaron Bruce, Eunice, Robert Cleo "Toad", Kenneth Buryl "Bugs" and Zona Beth Clements. Hugh married Loretta Messinger about 1932 and married Kathleen in 1976.
