Philip Anthony Bessellieu

Philip was born the son of Mark Anthony Bessillieu and Martha Chicet (Chiche). Apr. 10, 1771, Philip married Susannah Mason at St. Phillips. In 1790 Philip headed the orphan house in Charleston, SC with 36 males under the age of 16 in residence. Children: Susannah Elizabeth Bessileau married Abraham Joy; Capt. Mark Anthony Bessileau IV married Maria Williams; Charles Bessileau married 2nd Mary Riley (5 of his sons served in the CSA army); Johannah Martha Bessilleau married Joseph Purdy of NY (their daughter Maria Susannah Purdy married William Milligan Frazer); Philip Anthony Bessilleau died an infant; Lewis Bessilleau born 1779; Mary E Bessilleay married David Maull of Jacksonborough; Martha Catherine Bessilleau married Joseph Dilgar; and Philip John Bessileau became well known in Cooswatchie and lived amongst the native Americans.
