Thomas J. "Tom" Amerson, 91, of Lake City, passed away peacefully on Monday afternoon, October 4, 2021 after an extended illness. He was born in McAlpin, FL on August 11, 1930 to the late Samuel and Essie King Amerson. Tom served for over 20 years in the United States Army, where he and his late wife, Mary F. Amerson traveled with his career; he retired to Lake City in 1990. He also worked as a recruiter for AT&T until he fully retired. He was a member of the First Advent Christian Church in Lake City, where he taught the Adults Sunday School class for many years and served in many different positions within the church. He was also an Ordained Minister. In his spare time, he enjoyed fishing, working in his garden and taking care of Mary and Shirley. He is preceded in death by his first wife, Mary F. Amerson; brother, Broward Amerson and his sister, Nancy Privette.
He is survived by his wife, Shirley Brock Amerson of Lake City; children, Janet Amerson Burdette, Samuel "Sam" Amerson and Melissa D. Amerson (Michael Pintar) and his sister, Virginia Little. Three grandchildren, Paul Amerson, David Amerson and Sierra Amerson along with several nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services for Tom will be conducted on Tuesday, October 12, 2021 at 2:00 P.M. in the Gateway-Forest Lawn Memorial Chapel with Rev. Fred Gaylard officiating.
